The Johnstown Sitting Bulls sled hockey team will host a weekend of adult NESHL action at 1st Summit Arena and North Central Recreation Center Jan. 8-9. Fans are invited to watch games free of charge.
Sled Hockey is a para-sport that allows players with disabilities to play hockey. Players sit on specially designed sleds and use sticks equipped with metal picks on the ends to propel themselves and the puck. The 16-team NESHL includes teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Ohio, Delaware, Virginia, and Maryland.
Ten teams will take part in the weekend, each playing a total of 4 games between 1st Summit Arena in Johnstown and North Central Recreation Center in Ebensburg.
The Sitting Bulls will start the weekend with an 8:30 am game against Columbus on Saturday, before returning to play Pittsburgh at 2:30 pm. On Sunday, Johnstown will play Space Coast (Florida) at 11 a.m., and Philadelphia at 2 pm. All of Johnstown’s games will be played at 1st Summit Arena.
